The plugin for ChatGPT and Claude

Open RAW photos
in ChatGPT and Claude

Drop a CR3, NEF or ARW into a panel in the conversation and get the camera's JPEG and the shooting data in under a second. The file is read on your device and goes nowhere.

01 The short answer Before the detail

ChatGPT and Claude read JPEG, PNG, WebP and GIF, and nothing else: a RAW file attached to a conversation shows them nothing. The Rawnd plugin adds a panel to the conversation where you drop the RAW. The panel reads it in your browser, shows the JPEG the camera stored inside it with the camera, lens, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and focal length, and lets you save that JPEG or show it to the assistant. The RAW itself is never sent, to Rawnd, OpenAI or Anthropic. The plugin also offers eight hand-written looks, which open in Rawnd's editor.

What to ask it

Ask in your own words. In ChatGPT, name the plugin (@Rawnd) or pick it from the + menu: without that, ChatGPT asks for the file in the conversation instead. Claude calls it on its own once the connector is on.

You sayWhat happens
“I can't open this CR3”, “convert my NEF to JPG”The assistant shows the panel. Drop the file there, not in the message box: the assistant cannot read it in the message.
“Which looks do you have?”The eight looks, with a line on each.
“A dark, moody look”, “like Portra film”The assistant picks the closest look, adjusts it within narrow limits if you ask (“a bit less warm”), and shows a card that opens it in Rawnd's editor.

Adding it

The plugin is submitted to the ChatGPT and Claude directories, and this page will link to both listings once they are published. Until then, it is added by its address, https://rawnd.app/api/mcp:

  • Claude: Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector, then paste the address. No sign-in is asked for, because Rawnd has no account.
  • ChatGPT: with developer mode on, which OpenAI keeps for paid plans, create an app with the same address.

Nothing to install on your computer, on either assistant.

Who receives what

For each tool call, Rawnd's server writes one row: which tool, and which assistant. Not the values, not a word of your conversation, not an IP address. The privacy policy gives the full account, including what ChatGPT does with a photo you show it.

The eight looks

Dark film, Warm film, High-contrast B&W, Cool & muted, Golden hour, Matte, Crisp & vivid and Teal & orange. Each is a set of slider values written by hand, not a filter generated on the spot, and each was checked on seven real RAW files, an underexposed forest among them: the first draft of Dark film turned it entirely black.

The assistant chooses among them and may nudge one within its bounds; it cannot invent a ninth. The card it shows opens the look in Rawnd's editor, where it goes onto your RAW, or onto a sample photo if you just want to see it.

What it does not do

  • Develop the RAW. The panel shows the camera's own rendering, at the size the camera stored: 6000 × 4000 on the 24-megapixel Nikon sample, 1920 × 1280 on the four Fujifilm files measured, and anywhere from about 1600 pixels to full size on Sony. Exposure, white balance and the rest happen in Rawnd's editor.
  • Open a JPEG, PNG or HEIC. The assistants already read those.
  • Apply a look inside the conversation. The editor opens in your browser, and the RAW has to be opened again there: a panel cannot hand a file to another site.

99 Questions Asked more than once

Why can't ChatGPT or Claude open my CR3, NEF or ARW file?

Both read images as JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF only. A RAW file is the sensor's data in a format each camera maker defines, so attached to a conversation it shows nothing. The plugin reads it in a panel and hands back the JPEG the camera stored inside it.

Is my RAW file sent to OpenAI, Anthropic or Rawnd?

No. The panel reads the file on your device and forgets it; nobody receives the file, its name or its shooting data. Only “Show to the assistant” sends anything: the extracted JPEG, stripped of its metadata, into your conversation, when you press it.

Does the plugin cost anything, or need a Rawnd account?

Neither. The plugin is free and asks for no account; a ChatGPT or Claude account is enough. The editor the looks open in is free as well, one photo at a time. Working on a whole shoot at once, batch export and presets, is Rawnd Pro, on rawnd.app.

How do I save the JPEG from the conversation?

In Claude on a computer, with the “Download the JPEG” button. ChatGPT allows no download from a panel, so right-click the preview and choose “Save image as…”: it is the full JPEG, not a reduced copy.

Does it work on a phone?

In Claude for Android, yes, measured with a RAW picked from Files. Android offers no way to save the JPEG from the panel, so “Show to the assistant” puts it in the conversation instead. The ChatGPT mobile apps and the iPhone have not been measured yet.

How large is the JPEG I get?

As large as the camera made it. The Nikon sample gives 6000 × 4000, the Fujifilm files measured 1920 × 1280, and Sony ranges from about 1600 pixels to full size depending on the body. To go beyond the camera's rendering, develop the RAW in Rawnd's editor.

How is a Rawnd look different from asking the assistant to edit the photo?

An assistant that edits generates a new image from a JPEG, and details can change with it. A Rawnd look is a set of slider values applied to your RAW in the editor: the sensor's pixels stay yours, and every slider can be pulled back.
