01 Who you are dealing with

Rawnd is published by Matthieu Audo, sole proprietor, Québec, Canada. “We”, “us” and “our” mean that business. “You” means the person using Rawnd.

We answer in English or in French.

02 What Rawnd is

Rawnd is a RAW photo editor that runs inside your web browser. The decoder is a WebAssembly module and the developing is done by your own graphics hardware, so the work happens on the device in front of you rather than on a server of ours.

That is a fact about how it is built, and much of what follows is a consequence of it. We do not host your photographs, because we never receive them.

03 Your photographs stay yours

You keep every right you hold in the files you open. We claim no licence over them and we do not use them to train anything — and we could not, since they are never sent to us.

04 Using Rawnd

You may use Rawnd for personal or commercial photography, including work you are paid for. No separate commercial licence is needed.

You may not:

• resell, sublicense or redistribute Rawnd itself, or present it as your own product;
• circumvent, or help others circumvent, the limits of the free plan or a licence check;
• use Rawnd to process material you have no right to process;
• attempt to disrupt the service for other people.

05 Plans

Three, and the first is not a trial. The line between them is simple: free works one photo at a time, Pro works on the whole shoot.

• Free — no account, no card, no expiry. Open, cull, compare and develop as much as you like, and export photos one at a time in any format, XMP sidecars included. There is no monthly allowance and nothing to run out of.
• Pro — a subscription, monthly or yearly, which adds exporting a whole selection at once, pasting one photo's settings onto a selection, and saved presets.
• Founder — a one-time payment for the same features, limited to the first 200 people.

06 What “lifetime” means

A Founder licence is described as a lifetime licence. To be exact about what that is and is not:

It means access to the paid features for as long as Rawnd is offered, with no recurring payment and no renewal.

It does not mean a guarantee that Rawnd will be offered indefinitely. Nobody can honestly promise that, and we would rather say so than let the word imply it.

What we can tell you is more useful than a promise. Rawnd runs entirely in your browser and installs as an offline application. A copy already installed on your device keeps working without us — without our servers, without a network, and without this business continuing to exist. That is a property of how the software is built, not an undertaking about the future.

If we ever stop offering Rawnd we will say so publicly and stop charging. We will not disable copies already installed.

07 Payment

Purchases are handled by our payment provider, which acts as the merchant of record. That means the provider is the seller for your transaction: it takes the payment, charges any tax due where you live, and issues your invoice. Its own terms apply to that transaction alongside these.

Card details are entered on the provider's systems. We never see or store them.

Prices are shown in US dollars. Tax is added at checkout where it applies.

08 Your licence

Buying creates an account against the email address used at checkout, and your licence lives there. That is how access is restored on a new machine — there is no key to keep safe or to type in anywhere.

You may have Rawnd active on up to 3 devices at a time. Activating a device is done once and needs a connection; everything after that works offline, including opening, developing and exporting.

You can free a slot whenever you like by deactivating a device from your account, so changing laptop costs you nothing and needs no request to us.

Sharing your account so other people can use your licence is what the section above prohibits.

09 Changes to Rawnd

We add features, change them, and occasionally remove them. Where a change would remove something you have paid for, we will tell licence holders by email before it happens.

10 Availability

Rawnd is offered as it is, with no promise that it will be available without interruption or free of defects.

Browsers change. A future browser release could alter or withdraw a capability Rawnd depends on. We will adapt where we reasonably can; we cannot guarantee that we always will be able to.

11 No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rawnd is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that Rawnd will meet your requirements, that its output will suit a given purpose, or that it will run without error.

Keep your own backups. Rawnd does not modify your original files — edits are stored separately from them — but no single piece of software should stand between you and your work.

12 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim relating to Rawnd is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or to CAD $50 if you have paid us nothing.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost work, lost time, or lost or corrupted data.

Some places do not allow these exclusions. Where that is so they apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing here removes a consumer right that cannot be waived — including under Québec's Consumer Protection Act.

13 Ending it

You may stop using Rawnd whenever you like. Cancelling a subscription is covered by the Refund Policy.

We may suspend access where these terms are being broken — in practice, where a licence is being redistributed. We will tell you why.

14 Changes to these terms

We may update them. The date at the top changes when we do, and a material change is announced by email to licence holders. Continuing to use Rawnd after a change means accepting it.

15 Language

These terms are published in English and in French. Both versions say the same thing; where they cannot be reconciled, the French version governs for a consumer resident in Québec, as that province's law requires.

16 Law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Québec and the laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of the judicial district of Montréal have jurisdiction — without prejudice to any right you have as a consumer to bring proceedings where you live.
